A land of change, of travel,
of the forces of nature
and of people coming together...

Estes Park, Colorado and its surrounding area (which includes Rocky Mountain National Park) has been a land in constant flux.

From the land itself rising up from the seas not just once but several times to people moving through the area, using it for their own uses before moving on, to more modern times, when people have discovered the wide valleys and magnificent peaks for themselves, shaping the land as much as the land shapes them. It's a story of a town in the mountains that, within mere decades of first being settled is known internationally and is the destination for thousands from around the world.

Join us as we explore Estes Park history. Thanks.

How EstesHistory.com is different.
There are many fine books out there on Estes Park's history, many of which we are indebted to. We fully encourage you to seek these books out (they are listed in our Bibliography section). We seek to supplement these books by compiling as much information from those sources and more, allowing the story to be told not so much in the straight-forward linear fashion familiar from most history books but in the form now well-known by the internet experience of a knowledge web, where links can be made between seemingly unrelated people and topics.
Our plans for the future of this site.

We plan to add more and more to the site as long as we can. We aim to go beyond just the broad strokes of history that would be most familiar to the casual visitor of the area and provide the stories of many of the people, businesses and forces of nature that have brought about the Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park of today. Our plan is to bring as many stories as possible into the site initially and then, once the dust settles, work on providing more and more of the links between the pages as well as providing more background information.

Here's how to help.
